This is the conclusion to our 4 part study in which we have addressed two questions.

1. Why are we here?

·      Why did God establish Jubilee Community Church?

·      What is our purpose and direction?

2. Why am I here?

·     Why did God lead you to this church?

·     What is His purpose for you here?

For the answer we have looked at Jesus’ words which are recorded in Matthew chapter 11.

Matthew 11

28 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Let’s answer those two questions from the underlined words.

1. Why are we here? Why did God create JubileeCommunityChurch? What is our purpose and direction?

God has established this church to be a place where His word is taught so people can learn His ways.

The priest in Hosea’s day had lost sight of that purpose; they failed in their duty to communicate God’s word. Listen to what the Lord said to them.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

Listen to this account from the days when Asa was the king of Judah. They had just been attacked by the Ethiopians who had come against them with an army consisting of one million men, and the Lord had delivered that army into their hands. Listen to what the Lord said to them.

2 Chronicles 15

1 Now the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded.

2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: "Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.

3 For a long time Israel has been without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law;

4 but when in their trouble they turned to the LORD God of Israel, and sought Him, He was found by them.

They had been without a teaching priest… and because they didn’t have a teaching priest they did not know the Law and they had not been serving the Lord.

In Jesus day they had those who taught, but they were not teaching the word of God.

Matthew 15

7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

8 "These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.

9 And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'"

Listen to the conversation Jesus had with His disciples following that statement.

Matthew 15

12 Then His disciples came and said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?"

13 But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.

14 Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch."

·      God has created Jubilee to be a place where His word is taught.

That answers the first question, “Why does Jubilee exist?” WE EXIST TO TEACH THE WORD!

God has established this church to be a place where His word is taught so people can learn His ways.

Let’s look at our second question.

2. Why am I here? Why did God lead you to this church? He could have led you to any fellowship, why this one?

Here is the answer.

God has brought you here so you could be instructed from His word

We do not claim to be the only church in the world who teaches the word…

We do not claim to be the only church in the Untied States that teaches the word…

We do not claim to be the only church in California that teaches the word.

We do not claim to be the only church in the HighDesert that teaches the word.

WE DO CLAIM TO BE A CHURCH THAT TEACHES THE WORD!

God wants you to hear His word, and He has brought you here to learn His word.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us the six things that God wants to accomplish in your life.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The word will not fail to accomplish these 6 things in your life. Here is why.

Isaiah 55:10-11 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

God’s word will accomplish everything He sends it forth to accomplish in your life.

You can have incredible confidence in that.

Philippians 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ

Let’s look at the 6 specific things that God’s word is going to accomplish in your life according to 2 Timothy 3.

1. God’s word brings doctrine into your life

God’s word is the source of spiritual truth in our lives.

John 6:63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”

Peter told us that the accuracy of God’s word is greater that our personal experiences.

2 Peter 1

16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;

I love the way the Old King James translates verse 19:

2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy…

Peter said, we were eyewitnesses…we saw the Son of God! We saw the miracles! We heard the voice from heaven! But better that what we have seen and heard…we have the word.

Listen to one more thing that Peter said.

John 6

66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.

67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also want to go away?"

68 But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

You can count on God’s word always telling you the truth.

Psalms 119:160 The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

·      God’s word brings doctrine into your life

2. God’s word brings reproof into your life

Not only will God’s word bring truth you’re your life, it also refutes error. Listen to the charge that Paul gave to Timothy.

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

He was told not just to teach the truth, but to also rebuke when necessary.

The word exposes error in our lives.

Ephesians 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

The word shines light into the dark areas of our lives.

Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life

This is one of the reasons that people resist hearing God’s word.

John 3:20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

·      God’s word brings reproof into your life

3. God’s word brings correction into your life

Correction literally means “straightening up again” God’s word not only brings correctness of thinking to us, but correctness of behavior.

Psalms 119:9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.

We need God’s help in cleansing our lives.

Psalms 19:12Who can understand his errors ? Cleanse me from secret faults.

The word is what exposes errors in our way.

1 John 4:6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

The word enables us to live a life that pleases God.

Psalms 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

·      God’s word brings correction into your life

4. God’s word brings instruction in righteousness into your life

God’s word brings you instruction in righteousness. You are living a whole new life, and His word explains the ways of the new life.

Psalms 25:4-5 Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day.

There is a clear explanation of what God desires from us in Deuteronomy 10.

Deuteronomy 10

12 “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

13 and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good?”

The reason that God’s instructions to us are so important are found in Proverbs 5.

Proverbs 5

21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He ponders all his paths.

22 His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin.

23 He shall die for lack of instruction, and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

God has revealed His truth to us so we can walk in it.

Deuteronomy 29:29 “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”

·      God’s word brings instruction in righteousness into your life

5. God’s word will make you complete

God’s word bring maturity and completeness to your life.

2 Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

Completeness is a process. James gives us insight into the process.

James 1:4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

God does not just fold His arms and say, “Work out this being compete thing on your own.” He is at work in the process.

Hebrews 13:20 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.

·      God’s word will make you complete

6. God’s word will equip you for every good work

There are things that God wants you to do, but you cannot do them in your own strength or by your own power.

Ephesians 4:11-12 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ

The ministry gifts are given for the purpose of equipping the saints. Listen to Jesus words.

John 15

4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

With Jesus you can do anything!

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

·      God’s word will equip you for every good work

We have answered our two questions.

1. Why are we here?

God has established this church to be a place where His word is taught so people can learn His ways.

2. Why am I here?

God has brought you here so you could be instructed from His word

There are six things involved in that process.

1. God’s word brings doctrine into your life

2. God’s word brings reproof into your life

3. God’s word brings correction into your life

4. God’s word brings instruction in righteousness into your life

5. God’s word will make you complete

6. God’s word will equip you for every good work
